New airport to be built in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has started designing a new type of airport.
Foster+ Partners studio won the competition for the design of a new terminal at Abha International Airport. The designers were inspired by the architecture of nearby villages and decided to focus on using local materials.
The architectural bureau plans to completely revise the look of a modern airport. The project provides for the construction of buildings of various heights, interconnected by a system of courtyards, paths and green areas.
A thermoregulation system characteristic of the region will appear inside the premises: stone walls and diffused daylight will contribute to maintaining coolness.
The basis of the project will be the principle of modularity, which will allow you to quickly complete the infrastructure. In the future, the airport will be able to expand as passenger traffic increases.
