Adana Airport: history and facts

1. Adana Airport is located in the southern region of Turkey, Cilicia, near the Syrian border and serves the city of the same name.

2. The civil-military airport began operation in 1937 and 20 years later switched to serving only civil aviation.

3. Today, Adana Airport is one of the oldest in the country and the sixth largest passenger traffic.

4. On April 7, 1999, a Boeing 737 (Turkish Airlines flight TK 5904) took off on the Adana-Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) route. 9 minutes after takeoff, the aircraft crashed. 6 crew members were killed. There were no passengers on board, as the flight departed empty for the removal of pilgrims.
